This is a 3dprinted "indicator stop" which I developed and tested on my South Bend lathe. This is a high quality 3dPLASTIC part which is BETTER AS PLASTIC than metal stops because it does the job and WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR LATHE WAYS!It cannot scratch the way and IF accidentally OVERRAN it will simply slide on the way WITHOUT DAMAGE! The below video is a demonstration showing the use of a simple carriage stop with a dial indicator. This allows setting so that as the carriage reaches a particular location, the operator can witness the position using the dial indicator and disengage or stop the carriage.It is best to set a position of the stop so that when the carriage reaches the dial indicator probe, the advancement to final position is approximately 1 dial turn or less. This makes it easy to "know" when you are about to see the correct "0" point to stop the carriage feeding.It was very easy to stop within 0.005 - 0.010" of a position.This allows you to "manually" advance the carriage to finish the cut if desired.This indicator works very good.Also, you can set tension on the indicator/stop clamp so if an overrun occurs the indicator stop will simply slide. I designed this to help me turn a backing plate for a new chuck.It was fantastic and easy to repeat many cuts and STOP within a few thousands of an inch from a preset location.This is great for internal boring and thread cutting! NOTE: This does NOT automatically stop your carriage. The operator MUST manually stop or disengage the carriage feed when desires. The "dial indicator" (NOT SUPPLIED) provides a precise position for carriage stop. DOES NOT NOT NOT INCLUDE THE DIAL INDICATOR!!!!
